PAGE 83 MECHANICAL TOOLS AND WORKSHOP ACCESSORIES LAHTI PRO PROLINE MEGA TRYTON VULCAN PROLINE SCREWDRIVER BITS Screwdriver bits are tools that, combined with a 1/4 „hex socket, a screwdriver handle or a power tool holder, form one work-ready tool. Strength for screwing in various types of screws and bolts is obtained by using high-strength chrome-vanadium steel or molybdenum steel and heat treating to a hardness of 56-60 HRC. Choosing the bit type begins with determining the type of socket in the screws that will be used. Next, the working conditions of the bit need to be established, i.e. with which tools or devices will it be used and in what material. Its purpose also needs to be determined – will it be used for batch or unit work. For soft materials, such as wood, use very hard bits, while for metals, bits with a torsion zone. Using a tip with appropriate material properties has a significant impact on the way the bit tip behaves in the screw socket. Using the right tip eliminates the risk of breaking bits and grinding down screw sockets.
