The employer is also obliged to provide workers with personal protective equipment appropriate to the type and level of hazards. A prerequisite for the correct selection of PPE is a risk assessment of the workplaces. The procedure for selecting PPE is to identify the types of hazards and the parts of the worker's body exposed to these hazards, to determine the PPE and the characteristics it must have in order to provide the worker with protection against the hazards present in their workplace. The risk assessment should be repeated when changes are made to the workplace, e.g. machinery or protective equipment used, work organisation, type of materials handled.
